Myanmar Mathematics Olympiad (MMO)
The Myanmar Mathematics Olympiad (MMO) is an international mathematics competition designed to give students an opportunity to challenge their mathematical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and logical reasoning skills. The competition encourages students to apply mathematical concepts, recognize patterns, think logically, and develop strategies to solve problems of varying difficulty. Students participating from Canada will compete online and will be included in the global rankings alongside MMO participants from other countries.
Contest Date: Sunday, September 13, 2026 | Online from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM ET — Students may begin at any time during this window and will have 90 minutes to complete the contest.
How Does the Contest Work?
MMO Canada is open to students in Grades 1–10. Each grade has its own competition paper designed for that grade level.
Students will have 90 minutes to complete 24 multiple-choice questions.
Questions are organized across different levels of difficulty: Easy, Medium, Hard, and Very Hard. This means students should expect some questions to feel familiar and accessible, while others are intentionally designed to be challenging and require deeper thinking.
The competition may include questions from:
Arithmetic
Algebra
Geometry
Combinatorics
Number Theory
Logical Reasoning
Each question is worth 3 points, for a maximum possible score of 72 points. There is no negative marking, so students are not penalized for incorrect answers.
Calculators are not permitted. Students may use blank scratch paper to work through the problems.
What Should Students Expect?
Students should expect a challenging mathematics experience that may be different from a regular school test.
It is completely normal for students not to know the answer to every question. As the difficulty increases, students will need to think carefully, try different approaches, manage their time, and apply their mathematical knowledge in unfamiliar situations.
The goal is not only to achieve a high score, but also to give students an opportunity to challenge themselves, develop confidence, and discover their strengths in mathematics.
Results and Recognition
Canadian students will be included in the global MMO rankings.
Every participant will receive an e-certificate and a personalized report card. Top-performing students may also earn Gold, Silver, or Bronze medals based on the official MMO results and award criteria.
Results are expected to be available within approximately one month after the competition.
One-Round Competition
MMO Canada consists of one competition round only.
There is no additional Global Final included in the Canadian program. Once students complete the online MMO Canada competition, their competition participation is complete.
Most importantly, we encourage families to view MMO as an opportunity for students to challenge themselves, enjoy mathematics, and gain valuable experience participating in an international mathematics competition.
